About Truro
Truro: a small city with a county-sized catchment
Truro is Cornwall's only city and its county town. The cathedral, built between 1880 and 1910, still dominates the skyline. Lemon Street's Georgian terraces give the centre a formal, established feel. The Hall for Cornwall brings touring theatre, comedy and music to Boscawen Street, and Truro City FC gives the city a football club with genuine local backing and a growing following.
The business base leans professional. Cornwall Council, the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske and Truro and Penwith College are large employers. Around them sit law firms, accountancy practices, estate agents, architects and private clinics. The centre adds independent retail, cafés, restaurants, hair and beauty salons, gyms and wellness studios. Most of these businesses sell to residents from across mid Cornwall rather than to holidaymakers.
Customers here compare before they commit. Someone booking a cut and colour checks photos and reviews first. A family choosing a solicitor reads several websites side by side before picking up the phone. People expect prices or a clear guide to cost, proper contact details and a site that works well on a phone. A dated or slow site quietly sends them to the next result.
